otum is the data and automation engineering team for companies without one. We build the data platforms, back-office automation, and software companies usually need an in-house team for. Senior engineers scope each system, build it, and stay accountable for it.
We are a senior team, working across the UK and internationally. Teams stay small, everyone works directly with the client, and every build is reviewed by a senior engineer before it reaches them.
We are stack agnostic, which means we bring the right engineer to each job rather than bending every engineer to the same tools. You work in what you are genuinely strong in.
We work remotely, with a few hours of daily overlap for the client calls. Some meetings are fixed and there is the occasional trip to a client site. The rest is flexible, and we make time for learning and for reviewing each other's work.
You own the integration layer that makes a client's back office run itself. You connect the systems they run on, move the routine work into them, and build it to stay correct under real volume, idempotent, reconciled to their numbers, and owned by them. This is the automation side of otum.
You join the automation side of otum, working on our ERP Automation builds. Teams are small and you work directly with the client's operations and finance people. A senior engineer reviews every build before it reaches the client, and you review others' work in turn.
Build the integration layer between a client's ERP (NetSuite, SAP, Dynamics, or their own), their EDI partners, and their 3PLs, running on their infrastructure and owned by them.
Automate the routine back office, order processing, invoicing, reconciliation, and routing each order to the right warehouse or 3PL, so people handle only the exceptions.
Design every flow to assume failure, retrying safely, never double-booking an order or a payment, and parking anything it cannot resolve where a person can see it.
Reconcile the automation to the client's numbers to the penny before it cuts over, then keep the systems checking each other after go-live.
Run phased, boring go-lives, one channel or partner at a time, with a rehearsed rollback and close monitoring through the first weeks of live traffic.
Sit with the client's operations and finance people to map how the work actually happens, exceptions and workarounds included, before automating it.
Several years building production systems integrations or back-office automation, strong in a backend language and in API design.
Experience making pipelines idempotent and retry-safe under real volume, so nothing is double-processed or silently lost.
Worked with an ERP and its ecosystem (for example NetSuite, EDI, or 3PL integration), or comparable system-of-record integration.
Comfortable with workflow orchestration (for example Temporal) and reconciling automated output against a source of truth.
Able to work directly with operations and finance people, and to map a real process before automating it.
Remote. You can be based anywhere in the UK or internationally, as long as you keep a few hours of daily overlap with the team and the client. Some client calls are fixed, and there is the occasional trip to a client site.
Numbers you can trust, operations that run themselves, all built into your stack and owned by you. Tell us where you want the edge, and we'll build it.
You'll hear from an engineer the same working day, not a sales sequence.
A short call, then a plan, and we start with Proof Week or a full build.
A fixed fee agreed before anything starts, for Proof Week or the full build.
