ToolsAd spend per new client

How much did your ads cost for each new client?

For service businesses that run Google or Meta ads and bill their clients in Xero. Drop your Google Ads campaigns, your Meta export and Xero’s Receivable Invoice Detail report, and see what your ads cost for each client whose first invoice falls in the same dates, beside what each platform says it got. Every sum is shown. Your ad spend over the clients your books call new, not a measure of which ads brought them, and not advice on your budget.

The dates come from your ad files. Type ad spend only for a platform you have no file for, over the same dates. An agency’s fee is not ad spend.

Ad spend per new client

$157.5464…

From 1 April to 30 September 2026 your Google and Meta ads cost $14,966.91, and 95 clients got their first invoice from you in those dates, so your ads cost $157.5464… for each new client.

$157.5464… = $14,966.91 ad spend ÷ 95 new clients, every client first invoiced in these dates, from ads or not. $14,966.91 = $10,868.75 Google + $4,098.16 Meta.

What this counts

  • A new client is a contact in your Xero file whose first invoice falls in your ad dates. It counts every new client, from ads or not, as the paid tools that sell this figure count new customers.
  • An invoice counts when it is a sales invoice, paid or approved, for more than nothing. Drafts, invoices awaiting approval, voided and deleted invoices, and credit notes do not.
  • Ad spend is what each file says you spent, Cost in Google’s file and Amount spent in Meta’s. The platforms’ own counts are theirs, and never added together, as a sale both claim would count twice.
  • Clients you never invoice in Xero, paid by card or through another system, are not in your file, so they are not counted.

Also in your files

  • Your Xero file holds 961 invoices for 295 contacts, the first dated 3 Mar 2025 (the report says “For the period 1 January 2025 to 16 October 2026”).
  • 195 clients were first invoiced before these dates, so are not new here.
  • 4 clients were first invoiced after these dates.
  • 1 contact has no invoice that counts.
  • Left out of the count: 2 drafts, 1 voided invoice, 12 credit notes, overpayments, prepayments or quotes and 2 invoices for nothing or less.
  • The contact with the most invoices that count is Josefina Fennimore, 18 of 944. If an app posts your sales to one contact in Xero, those clients are not counted one by one.
  • Your Google file’s Total: Campaigns row says $10,868.75, the same as the campaigns in it added up.
  • Your Google file’s Total: Account row says $10,868.75, the same as the campaigns in it added up.
  • 1 Google row spent nothing and counted nothing, so it is left out.
  • 1 Meta row spent nothing and counted nothing, so it is left out.
  • $340.33 of Meta spend is on rows with no result type, a campaign whose ad sets chase different results or a row with none, so it is in your ad spend but in none of Meta’s own figures.
